Way back in 1977, KXAS 5’s Bobbie Wygant interviewed a lesser known Harrison Ford about his new film Star Wars. Ford says he was not a sci-fi kind of guy and complained no one ever recognizes him from his films. Be careful what you wish for.
See Wygant’s review for The Empire Strikes Back.
As for Wygant, she joined Channel 5 in DFW when it signed on as WBAP-TV back in 1948. You can see her archives at bobbiewygant.com.
“Still A Virgin?” billboard erected in Houston
Closed Published by mikemcguff September 1st, 2010 on mikemcguff.com blogSo there is a new billboard that will probably really stick out in southwest Houston near Highway 59 and 610. It asks “Still A Virgin?” and then gives a phone number with an offer to help you out. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE BILLBOARD
KPRC 2 reporter Mary Benton found out the real deal. She called the number and found out it is actually a promotion for a new Will Ferrell backed movie called The Virginity Hit.

Uploaded by teasertrailer. - Full seasons and entire episodes online.
Johnny Depp in character talking to the camera as Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean 4 - On Stranger Tides. Sparrow denies that he is looking for the fountain of youth and lets talk of alcohol distract him.
At the end I swear he says, “Bloody Marys all around - it’s on the Mouse.” The Mouse being a reference to Disney who produces the film!
VIDEO: Harrison Ford stars as cranky morning anchor in new movie
Closed Published by mikemcguff July 19th, 2010 on mikemcguff.com blogHollywood loves to make movies about the TV news business. The best broadcast news film in my opinion is Network (1976). It is also the best prognostication of what was to come. If you haven’t seen it, find it and watch it.
The latest TV news flick comes from the producing mind of J.J. Abrams and is called Morning Glory. It stars Rachel McAdams as a producer working with the hardass anchor played by Harrison Ford. Diane Keaton is the other anchor on the network morning news show with Jeff Goldblum as a flustered manager. 50 Cent plays himself. Could be promising.
Here is more of a synopsis from YouTube:
When hard–working TV producer Becky Fuller (McAdams) is fired from a local news program, her career begins to look as bleak as her hapless love life. Stumbling into a job at “Daybreak” (the last–place national morning news show), Becky decides to revitalize the show by bringing on legendary TV anchor Mike Pomeroy (Ford). Unfortunately, Pomeroy refuses to cover morning show staples like celebrity gossip, weather, fashion and crafts — let alone work with his new co–host, Colleen Peck (Keaton), a former beauty queen and longtime morning show personality who is more than happy covering morning “news.” As Mike and Colleen clash, first behind the scenes and then on the air, Becky’s blossoming love affair with fellow producer, Adam Bennett (Wilson) begins to unravel — and soon Becky is struggling to save her relationship, her reputation, her job and ultimately, the show itself.
Morning Glory comes out this Fall.
Vote Houston (or other city) to premiere new Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg film ‘The Other Guys’
Closed Published by mikemcguff July 16th, 2010 on mikemcguff.com blogI just saw a big billboard at 610 and Beechnut for the new Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg film ‘The Other Guys.’ It comes out August 6th.
The film is about two NY cops who aren’t exactly the stars of the police department. The film will premiere in New York, but you can make Houston the other guy site of the second premiere. These PR people are getting clever here so I will give up the space to talk about this - plus the movie trailer (below) looks pretty funny.
Beginning today, moviegoers can go on Facebook at www.facebook.com/otherguysmovie and vote in a poll to decide which Other City will host The Other Premiere. Ferrell and Wahlberg will attend the red carpet event in the winning city on August 5th.
The 20 candidate cities are Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Kansas City, Miami, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, Orlando, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Seattle, Tampa/St. Petersburg, and Washington, DC. On August 2, Ferrell and Wahlberg will announce the winning city.

Here is a video that pits characters from the two franchises together to see which set of characters comes out on top.
I would really like to see this with the James T. Kirk crew.

The Big Four thrash tour hits movie screens
Closed Published by mikemcguff June 21st, 2010 on mikemcguff.com blogLots of metal fans are very excited about the so-called Big Four shows made up of thrash godfathers Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax. No one thought these shows would ever happen.
It is happening but only in Europe for now. But Tuesday and Thursday night, in a movie theater hopefully near you, you can see all these bands play one of those European shows.
You’ve probably heard of these concerts beamed to local movie theaters by satellite before. This show features nearly four hours of live performances and behind-the-scenes from the Sonisphere Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The show starts at 7:30pm local time Tuesday, June 22 and again on Thursday, June 24 in select theaters. Here is the list of participating theaters.
Here are the participating Texas theaters according to NCM.com.

Rock 101 KLOL documentary in production
Closed Published by mikemcguff April 27th, 2010 on mikemcguff.com blogSince Ken Hoffman wrote about it in his Houston Chronicle column, it is time to announce I am working on a Rock 101 KLOL documentary:
KLOL’s home was a dump of a building at 510 Lovett in [Montrose]. Yeah, but it was a legendary dump. Some of the greatest stars in rock history played live on KLOL. If the walls could talk, or if they had a security camera in the garage, there’d be plenty of people still apologizing for things that went on at 510 Lovett.
But nothing lasts forever, especially not in radio. Stevens and Pruett were let go, Steele became a mommy and a private entrepreneur, and Moby went country and moved to Atlanta. All the supporting characters, like Eddie “The Boner” Sanchez, Tubby Peckerwood and Locke Siebenhausen, gasp, took real jobs. READ MORE
I am taking freelance gigs to pay for the film and have already started shooting (if you know of a source that would be interested in funding this…please let me know).
Eventually I will build a website to talk more about it and post videos as interviews are shot. You will be able to track the progress and hear some amazing stories along the way there.
My blog will also be featuring more news on Houston and Texas documentaries. We have a lot of great stuff going on here that is flying beneath radar I have a feeling. Please contact me through email or social media about anything in the area documentary world.
