VIDEO: Station makes fun of TV consultants
Closed Published by mikemcguff September 30th, 2008 on mikemcguff.com blog
Every industry has consultants. Some can be good, some can be bad. In TV land I’ve worked with some good consultants like Graeme Newell (and Stephen Warley formerly) of 602 Communications, Steve Safran of ARandD and Tom Rosenbaum of Magid and Associates as well as others.
But let’s face it, as the old axiom goes, many are paid to look at your watch and tell you what time it is. In fact many have been charged in the TV world of taking a station’s character away and making it look like every other station across the country. That or forcing a station to use crazy gimmicks. You know, all the stuff bloggers make fun of.
KMAX and KOVR, duopoly stations in Sacramento used the bad consultant concept in a promo for the Good Day Sacramento show.

Kudos to the stations for making fun at a problem in the industry. Did a consultant come up with this though?

Ming’s Cafe in Montrose gets new life as burger joint
Closed Published by mikemcguff September 29th, 2008 on mikemcguff.com blogNancy Sarnoff of the Houston Chronicle reports that the shuttered Ming’s Cafe location on Montrose is about to get new life:
The restaurant is expected to open Dec. 1 after it’s remodeled and new patios built on three sides of the structure, which is just north of Westheimer at 2703 Montrose. Most of the 135 seats will be outdoors.
The new operation will be called Little Big’s and specialize in sliders — or mini hamburgers — fries, onion rings and shakes. It will sell beer and wine, too. READ THE REST
Another Little Big’s will open in Hermann Park in the Spring according to the article.
I swear, Cynthia has more home made clothing items celebrating Halloween than any other holiday you can think of. Seems that each year she makes another blouse or skirt featuring witches, skeletons, jack-o-lanterns or whatever.
Her latest creation is this spiffy jacket made from fabric with an Edward Gorey like motif…
