Is it Halloween? Don’t ask the kids

I had big plans for Halloween on this blog. I was going to podcast a scary story. I even bought two scary sound CDs for backup.
Then I couldn’t get the inspiration. The story I wrote was lame.
Maybe it is because of something I learned this month. There are no Halloween parties in schools anymore. Kids can’t dress up in costume on Halloween day in school. They don’t hand out candy because that is unhealthy. Instead the kids have fall festivals. They might get a cookie or something. That’s it.
What happened? When I was a kid Halloween was a big deal. We dressed up in costumes and ate candy. Sure, a bunch of second graders hopped up on sugar isn’t the healthiest thing, but IT’S ONE FREAKING DAY! Aren’t kids supposed to have fun?
The PC police are all about aren’t they? Maybe they are the real ghouls and goblins.

Tips to get your blog read
Closed Published by mike@mikemcguff.com (mikemcguff) October 31st, 2007 on mikemcguff.com blogI talked to an expert to find out some tips to get your blog read:
Mike McGuff: What kinds of posts attract attention?Rick Calvert: Again it depends on what your subject matter is. The most important thing, and what I love most about the blogosphere, is quality wins. If you post quality content you will build an audience. Hot news items, celebrities, Fortune 500 brands will get noticed. Posts about other famous bloggers, a tried and true form of linkbaiting, works pretty often. Headlines like “10 ways to save money”, or “Three things you need to know about blogging” give readers a reason to click. And the old advertising standbys of money and sex seem to always get attention.
